Auditory Processing
Imagine for a minute the frustration of not understanding what is being said. Also think that you do not have any hearing problems, you hear perfectly and you are intelligent. Why don't you understand?
This is the frustration of patients who have an auditory processing disorder. The ears and the brain are not synchronized, and therefore the brain does not understand what is said. Sound is not registered usefully and much auditory information is not processed correctly.
Central Auditory Processing
Six basic skills may be prevented from developing properly in auditory processing. If your child has difficulties with one or some of these skills, a speech and language assessment is recommended.
The auditory processing disorder must be treated. Thus, children can have good communication with others, can learn new information at school and can be able to perform auditory tasks with less difficulty.
In the medical prescription, the pediatrician must inform in German the diagnosis of Central Auditory Processing Disorder (Auditive Verarbeitungs- und Warnenhumungsstörungen-AVWS)
